Chiropractic Costa Rica and Panama Missions

by Michael Dorausch, DC

I was browsing through some web pages on Planet Chiropractic today and I came across a half a dozen pages that had links to photos that were taken during chiropractic missions to Panama and Costa Rica from May and October of 2000. Spanish chiropractic

All the pages are grouped together and if you want to browse through the images you can view the main page here… Chiropractic mission to Panama February 2004

There are five pages of indexed image thumbnails which link to photos from a CREW chiropractic mission to Costa Rica in 2000, and pages of image thumbnails for one of the many chiropractic missions to Panama.

We decided to keep the pages for historical archive purposes so others can view the estimated 200 photographs from this set that are available from those missions. Images are actually still captures taken from a Sony VX-1000 handheld digital camcorder. Amazing how image technology has changed in the last seven years. Looking at some of the photos now they really bring back some memories. The first page of the image archives shows photographs taken in a civic gymnasium in Panama City, Panama. There are some photos towards the top of the page showing the lines of people waiting to get into the gymnasium for chiropractic care.

You can check out some of these thumbnails to view those images directly…

Hundreds of chiropractors participated in CREW (Chiropractors Restoring Energy Worldwide) missions from 1997 through 2004. Chiropractors traveled from the United States, Canada, Spain, Australia, and other parts of the world to provide free chiropractic care to the people of Panamá and Costa Rica during these very successful missions.
There are 15 to 20 related news articles in the chiropractic archives and you can access most of them from here: News Search Panama

Chiropractic Web Guru Giving Away Websites

by Vera Arteaga

Michael Dorausch of Planet Chiropractic announced on chiropractic blogs yesterday that he will be giving away the designs, content, and templates of his popular chiropractor website in an effort to provide chiropractors with more options for putting content online.

The site will be available under creative commons licensing and should be available for download and implementation by August 6th, 2007.

Planetc1 will be recommending webhosts and will create tools for chiropractors to grab some cool domain names but the website package itself will be free. There are some neato features like a built-in frontpage option for chiropractic patients to post testimonials to the homepage (all approved by an administrator).

Stay tuned for more details on the localization of the site designs as well as web site optimization features to be built in. This is likely the first of other website designs Dorausch is going to offer the chiropractic community.

Giving away my chiropractic website

My first attempt at this post got back spaced and I inadvertently deleted all the content before I saved it. Lesson: incremental saves.

OK, you saw the title… I’m giving away a website. It’s late so I’m not getting into much detail now but I’ll update this as I move further along.

Simply, I spent about $3000.00 developing a site (Chiropractor Website) and numerous people have emailed me since saying they liked it, could they get one like it, etc…

Dr. Mike and KidsToday I was doing some edits on a few pages and the thought arose to put the site into Creative Commons Licensing (see below) so other chiropractors could benefit from it.

Selling the template was an option but why not just make it available to chiropractors and students to use on their own domains without having to pay some internet company monthly fees to host a dog? Not that it’s perfect, it’s not, but it’s on par or better than much of the stuff I have seen out there.

Here are some key things…

  1. You’ll need your own domain name (costs less than $10 per year)
  2. You’ll require your own hosting. I’d recommend LAMP (Linux-Apache-MySQL-PHP)
  3. You’ll have to install the site yourself or hire someone to do so

I’ll provide links here for monthly hosting plans (for a website like this they will range from $4 to $7 a month) and I think we could get a group of volunteers together to streamline the website template so installation could be made easier. I know some hosting companies that would pay Planet Chiropractic a commission if you signed up for their hosting. That could be a win-win for those of you wanting to go that route.

If you look at the website you’ll see I have to pull lots of my chiropractic office info off of it but I plan to include nearly all the articles I authored, others I have permission to include, along with content from Planet Chiropractic and RSS feeds so that new articles can be added in an automated fashion.

I also have loads of professional photos of people receiving chiropractic adjustments, lying on tables, etc… which I own all rights to. I’ll include a package of those so your website will be ready to roll out with about an hours worth of effort.

Hows that sound so far?

What do I get from all this (other than you can’t out give the giver abundance and reward)?

  1. You continuing to support Planet Chiropractic
  2. You not emailing me looking for a website design for your office
  3. You agreeing to participate in kind so that students can have access to even better websites when they graduate

What do you say? I’ve got to run by my designs with my programmers so we can strip some items from the site template and make things easy to install, update, etc…

Want to know some cool features?

  1. All the basics right at the top of the page (Home, Location, About, Hours)
  2. All pages can be edited from an easy to use Admin Panel
  3. Can post Announcements to the homepage (like office closed for 4th of July)
  4. Patient testimonials display directly to the homepage

There is more (like Search Engine Optimized) but that we can address later. There are also some details I’d like to hash out like getting some standards for descriptions of subluxation, history of chiropractic, etc… I know some smart chiropractors will get together to help me hammer this out.

Who will get to use this? All chiropractors will have access to the finished template and all associated files. There will be no commercial use meaning no web design or hosting companies can sell the website. Chiropractors, of course, will be able to use the site to actively promote their practices.

You likely have questions so go ahead and email me (mail@planetc1.com) with your thoughts and I’ll address them in future posts regarding this project.

So far, expect the licensing to be as follows…

OK, let’s roll out some chiropractic websites!

Local Chiropractor Search Pages

The local chiropractor pages on Planet Chiropractic are getting more visitors every month. This post explains how to get listed so those searching in your state can find you.
side-posture-chiropracticThe pages offer listing of chiropractic office information, school addresses and contact info, as well as organization and association resources. There is a webpage for each of the 50 states in the USA and each state page is directly accessible via major search engines. For example, web surfers seeking chiropractors in Ohio would land on the Chiropractors Ohio page.

While there are no schools of chiropractic in Ohio there are state associations and listings for chiropractors in the state, on the page. Currently, all of the pages are hard-coded html and they are updated manually by members of the website staff. If you are a chiropractor practicing in the USA you can have your listing added by sending an email to…
mail@planetc1.com
(don’t change the subject heading or your message may go into spam box). Include all information such as clinic name, address, phone and website. Allow 2-3 weeks for your location to be listed.

If you are someone searching for a chiropractor or chiropractic school information in your state, you can browse the main state chiropractic page.

Potential Content is Everywhere

Yesterday I posted an article to Planet Chiropractic News titled Live Subluxation Free or Die Hard. The article was about Bruce Willis, his 4th Die Hard film (opening tomorrow), and chiropractic.

People sometimes ask where I get this stuff. Do we call an agent for Bruce Willis? Did someone from his promotional office call us? Nope. Most of the time, nearly all the articles I tend to cover come out of the ether.

This one went like this… I was running on the beach in Santa Monica Sunday afternoon. As is typical, a million things felt like they were downloading into my brain. Sometimes I feel like Johnny Mnemonic, a wifi version, and someone is dumping a constant stream of data, heating up all my synapses.

Alright, running along, and I hear a plane going by. It was one of those advertising planes pulling a long banner for all the tourists visiting the beaches to watch (and for me apparently). The banner read… Yippee-Ki-Yay, Mother Fu… Live Free or Die Hard.

The “live subluxation free” popped in my head instantly, an opportunity to talk chiropractic. The fact that the film was coming out this week made the content timely, another plus. Then bang, another idea… Bruce Willis has mentioned chiropractic before, surely he got adjusted during the making of DH4.

Running home I was already on to thinking about something else, that’s where many ideas end or get put into archive mode. Monday morning the idea came back so I contacted a friend of mine who has worked on the first 3 Die Hard films. He gave me some trivia and I also located some current information related to Willis getting adjusted and that he was still doing his own stunts.

So we had a movie coming out, an actor who supports chiropractic, an opportunity to say thank you, and a chance to put it all together = news post.

There you have it. What’s next? A few minutes ago I was adjusting someone that was wearing an adidas sports top. I said “do you know what a-d-i-d-a-s stands for?” All day I dream about spines!

Independence Day comes early for chiropractic classifieds

We were waiting until July 4th of 2007 to release the latest news regarding the chiropractic profession’s number one ranked online classified ad service.

If you haven’t been on the website lately you may notice something different, there are no fees for posting ads. That’s right, freedom from paying fees to post chiropractic related classified ads. Certain sections of Planet Chiropractic turned nine years old this past month and we wanted to do something to celebrate the event. While ads for things such as Associates, private equipment sales such as adjusting tables, and substitution services, were always free, we’ve now opened the gates to everything else in the classified section.

chiropractic pony tableThe photo to the left is an example of an ad currently posted in the private party section… “selling a classic Lloyd Pony Adjusting table with Cervcial, Thoracic and Lumber Drops. Newly re-upolstered. These are no longer being made, so you can’t get one unless you find one used, like this.”

That means that as of today, chiropractic practice for sale ads are free. Chiropractic offices seeking associates is free. Selling your x-ray equipment or other equipment from your chiropractic office… free. Did we mention that commercial listings for the best chiropractic software, chiropractic Internet services, practice management products, and listings for commercial vendors such as Lloyd and Leander are free? Just in case you’re wondering, all listings for all categories are now free of charge to post and view.

It doesn’t stop there. Earlier this month we announced the addition of Really Simple Syndication (RSS) feeds for all ads posted to the website. The inclusion of classified ads RSS feeds has resulted in a number of other chiropractic related web sites displaying the advertising content that gets added to our classified ad system. What does this mean?

The addition of RSS means that a chiropractor or someone wanting to sell or promote a chiropractic product or service only has to post a single ad, and that ad can be displayed on any website, e-mail application, mobilephone, PDA, or electronic device that supports the technology we are using to deliver chiropractic related advertising.

This makes things very simple for the person posting advertisements. It also makes it very simple for anyone that owns or hosts a chiropractic website. Using something as simple as a JavaScript, a webmaster could add all the most recent advertisements made to their website, something that will likely increase traffic to their web page when people are searching terms appearing in the ads. All advertisements update automatically so there’s nothing to do after the script is put in place.

Thank you to all of you that have been using the planet chiropractic classified ad system since 1999. Can you believe we’re into our ninth year of delivering classified ads electronically?

OK, here are some direct links to some of the most popular pages…

Check out this article (RSS added to classified ads) for more information about the RSS feeds that were added.

Is the service perfect, nope. Do we continue working on it, you bet! Thank you for your support!

World?s oldest man born September 1895

The world’s oldest man appeared in news articles last week (Monday, June 18, 2007) after he received an official certificate from the Guinness World Records, verifying him as the world’s oldest male.

According to report on Yahoo! News, Tomoji Tanabe is currently 111 years old, born on September 18th, 1895.

Chiropractors will recognize that date as the day D.D. Palmer, the founder of chiropractic, gave the first chiropractic adjustment to a gentleman by the name of Harvey Lillard, in Davenport Iowa.

On September 18, 2007 don’t forget to say happy birthday to Tomoji and to Chiropractic, as they’ll both be 112 years old.

I recalled seeing the article in some news wire last week but I passed it by and did not read it until receiving an e-mail from a chiropractor in Connecticut. Many thanks to Dr. Robert Shaw in Milldale, Connecticut, for forwarding the article to Planet Chiropractic.

Granular Data Project at Planet Chiropractic

Programmers at planetchiropractic.com were recently looking at the growing list of thousands of news articles that exist on the popular chiropractic website.

Even though the web site has offered several different ways for visitors to view and search information, programmers are always at work seeking ways to better improve the end-users experience. A topic that came up during the past few weeks was how to make lists of some of the most popular words searched in news content available to end-users.

It’s becoming more and more popular to see something called tagging or clouds appearing on Web 2.0 web sites. One of the problems was that planetc1.com is built on Web 1.0 architecture and the web site still uses CGI and Perl heavily. Here’s what was rolled out after carefully studying some of the new popular tagging features appearing on other web sites…

  1. Planet Chiropractic searched their news article database for words popular on the chiropractic web site
  2. an alphabetical list of those most popular words was created and saved in a flat file text database
  3. a simple list of letters from the alphabet were added to the main search page

As a result, clicking on the letter of the alphabet brought up a list of popular words being searched, along with the regular search box. The result was a far easier way to browse through over nine years of chiropractic related news content. Someone may not have thought to search the name of a popular chiropractor or technique, but with that information appearing there for the user, it becomes more likely the content will be viewed, and the user will have the experience they were seeking.

You can view the alphabetical keyword search system directly from the main chiropractic search page.

The Web company is expected to use the same technique and technologies to deliver targeted search results for their classified ad system, chiropractic seminar network, and list of chiropractors in the USA and Canada.

Seattle Chiropractor Gets Connected Online

There’s lots of chiropractors all over the world that have still not gotten their office information into various online directories. A chiropractor practicing in Seattle, Lawrence Clayman, already had a website but did not have much of a presence in other online spaces.

There are so many directories out there that chiropractors can get listed in, and the more that you get your information added to, the better. Dr. Lawrence contacted someone from a company called NearMe Networks who gave him some insight about getting his information on some of the most popular chiropractic authority websites.chiropractic hands

It’s really very simple, as the chiropractor is not having to get a whole web site built. Instead, he identifies the areas in his community that he serves. For example, at his Roxbury Spine and Wellness Clinic, Dr. Lawrence provides care for people from Brighton, West Seattle, Capitol Hill, Allentown, South Park, Riverton Heights, and even the local airports, which would include Seattle-Tacoma international Airport and the King County international Airport.

Even though the chiropractic office is located in Seattle, on Roxbury street, it’s important to consider and include information when adding listings to a directory style web page. Besides including his phone number and address, the chiropractor was sure to include some information about the areas people typically travel from, which can help give those doing Internet searches a better idea of how far people typically travel to get to the chiropractic office.

Creating and effective directory listing page is simple. Visit the page of Seattle Chiropractor, Dr. Lawrence Clayman, to view one for yourself.

Chiropractors advised to watch out for scams

by Vera Arteaga

A post made to the popular chiropractic website, chiropractic blogs, advises chiropractors to be wary of parties and individuals marketing shady internet services, geared towards attracting new consumers from local communities.

There is no doubt more people are searching for doctors of chiropractic online. While it is important for all chiropractors to have some kind of online presence, it is also important for them to watch out for websites that appear to pop-up over night, promising loads of new clients, and suggesting that if they don’t join now, they may be locked out on opportunity.

“The reality is that this is nonsense” says chiropractic internet guru and founder of Planet Chiropractic, Michael Dorausch. “Almost any chiropractor with a google adwords account, or similar, can advertise their website, or even a single webpage in a top position.” What Dorausch refers to are those paid ads that appear on big search engines like google, yahoo, and msn.

What chiropractors should not forget is that there are many great opportunities available to them. They should not feel “locked in” to any one model of advertising online.

Nearly all state and national associations have directories chiropractors can be listed in, however they do have to be members to get included. There is also a directory for members of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA). Parents seeking chiropractic care for their kids can search here: ICPA Locator
